* The story "Value benchmark harder to beat, says mutual fund study" in the May 27 issue incorrectly reported Russell benchmark returns. Top-quartile performing small-cap growth funds beat the Russell 2000 Growth index - not the Russell 1000 Growth - by 6.3 percentage points, for the 10-year period ended Dec. 31, 2000. Also, the Russell 1000 Growth index returned an annualized 17.3% and the Russell 1000 Value index returned an annualized 17.4% for the period. In the story, the return numbers were inaccurately attributed to the Russell 2000 styles indexes.
