House lawmakers later this week are scheduled to vote on a bill introduced by Reps. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Ben Cardin, D-Md., to make last years change in pension law permanent. The changes, part of EGTRRA, are scheduled to expire at the end of 2010.
Lobbyists representing employers are hoping that the new bill, The Retirement Savings Security Act of 2002, will receive "significant bipartisan votes, said James M. Delaplane Jr., vice president of retirement policy at the American Benefits Council. However, the Democratic-controlled Senate is not expected to back the effort because of election-year politics.
