Thomas DiBella and Kenneth W. Gainey were named portfolio managers at Turner Investment Partners, forming the core of an investment team managing two new mutual funds, the Turner Small Cap Equity Fund and the Turner Small Cap Value Opportunities Fund. Messrs. DiBella and Gainey managed active domestic small-cap stocks at Aeltus Investment Management. Tracy Sherman, a spokeswoman for Aeltus, did not return calls by press time regarding replacements.
Also, Turner named Roger Early as chief investment officer for fixed income and Paul Matlack as fixed-income portfolio manager. Both are high-yield bond managers and will enable Turner to develop a core-plus bond strategy, said Stephen Kneeley, Turner president. Jim Midanek, who was CIO, remains on the fixed-income team as portfolio manager. Mr. Early was vice president and senior portfolio manager at Rittenhouse, while Mr. Matlack was a portfolio manager at Delaware Investments. Laurel OBrien, a spokeswoman for Rittenhouse, said Mr. Earlys duties have been assigned to other portfolio managers. Tom Gariepy, a Delaware spokesman, said Mr. Matlack left in the third quarter of 2000; Mr. Kneeley said Mr. Matlock was waiting for his non-compete agreement with Delaware to end before joining another firm.
