Online 401(k) platforms should make significant headway in the largely untapped small-employer 401(k) market in the next two years, according to a report by consultant Celent Communications. By 2003, online 401(k) providers will boost their penetration of the segment to 40% from 20%, the report said. New plans and conversions to e-401(k) platforms will allow providers to tap into approximately $1.2 trillion in potential assets.
