Participants in 401(k) plans reacted to Mondays market reopening with the highest investment transfer activity recorded by the Hewitt 401(k) index since its inception in August 1997. The index, which tracks the daily transfer activity of nearly $71 billion in 401(k) assets, recorded daily net transfer activity of 0.58% of total balances, meaning $400 million in 401(k) assets were transferred. That is more than nine times the normal level of activity, which averages 0.06% daily.
