CalPERS, Sacramento, committed $409 million to seven alternative investments. The $156 billion California Public Employees Retirement System committed $150 million to the Candover 2001 Fund, a European buyout fund; $100 million each to the Bridgepoint Second European Private Equity Fund and T3 Partners II, a technology and telecommunications fund; $15 million to Berkshire Fund VI, a buyout fund; $10 million to Aberdare Ventures II, an early-stage venture capital fund; and $10 million to ARCH Venture Partners V, a technology fund. It also committed $24 million to a $30 million CalPERS Healthcare Side Fund, which will co-invest with ARCH only on biotech deals; California Emerging Ventures, a venture cap fund run for CalPERS by Grove Street Partners, provided the balance of funding.
