Canadian balanced managers had a median return of 0.7% for the quarter ended June 30, according to a survey of Canadian pension fund performance published by Royal Trust. Canadian equity managers had a median return of 3.5% for the second quarter, outperforming the 2.1% return of the TSE 300 index of domestic stocks. Foreign equity managers had a median return of -0.5%, beating the MSCI EAFE index return of -4.9% and the MSCI World index return of -1.2% for the quarter.
For the year ended June 30, Canadian balanced managers had a median return of -2.6%. Canadian equity managers had a median return of -3.3% for the period, compared with a return of -23.1% for the TSE 300 index.
Canadian active bond managers had a median return of -0.7% for the second quarter, matching the return of the Scotia Capital Universe Bond index. For the year ended June 30, Canadian active bond managers had a median return of 6.3%, beating SCUBIs 6.1% return for the same period.
