www.barclaysglobal.com: third place, defined benefit
The additional functions and new look BGI added to its website in March helped it finish third.
The site's added content, enhanced reporting and information "seems up to date," said one contest judge.
Specifically designed for defined benefit plan sponsors that use BGI funds, the new site contains full account information and added transaction capabilities. Its new Orders Online feature allows plans to place cash-based trade orders for BGI funds through the web.
While the new site made a favorable impression on most of the judges, one observed that "Barclays has been eager to promote itself as cutting-edge. ... For a prospective client, however, it would be hard to get more than a gloss of an idea."
Paul Stevens, head of global technology at BGI, said the firm's "leverage of the web has provided a dynamic platform to support our existing pension business, while enabling us to economically serve a broad base of smaller institutional investors with the same quality investment research and reporting previously available only to larger institutional investors."
