Participants in 401(k) plans with self-directed brokerage accounts are 10% more likely to be satisfied with their 401(k) plans than participants in plans without such accounts, according to American Express 2000 participant satisfaction survey. Participants with self-directed brokerage accounts also are 11% more likely to be satisfied with their investment options, according to the survey of 546 participants in plans serviced by American Express, which offers self-directed brokerage accounts as part of its line of investment options. The survey also found participants with self-directed accounts in their plans are 19% more likely to desire more information on specific investment options. Spectrem Group assisted with the survey.
