DARIEN, Conn. - BARRA Strategic Consulting Group Inc. is marketing an integrated package of strategy advice and performance analysis to money management clients.
The new service provides clients with reports on all of their investment management strategies using the performance quality, style and risk analysis software modeling programs of its sister company, BARRA RogersCasey, with Darien-based BARRA Strategic Consulting's flagship strategic advice.
BARRA consultants, led by John Casey, chairman, found that even as manager sophistication was rising there still were common weaknesses across their money management clients, many revolving around issues of investment management and performance attribution, said Jeb Doggett, managing director. The new combination of services makes BARRA's relationship with its money manager clients less project-oriented and more similar to the retainer relationships pension funds strike with their investment management consultants, said Mr. Doggett.
"This service will help us extend the educational process beyond portfolio managers and business managers," he said. For example, the five clients who have been testing the service for the past year have found that one primary application of performance reporting has been in training sales, marketing and client service staff to better understand, and therefore sell and explain, investment processes.
Mr. Doggett would not name the clients using the service.
