The MSCI EAFE index fell 2.5% in October, while the MSCI World index of 22 developed markets was down 1.8%. Among developed-market indexes, Italy advanced 2.2%, while Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland managed negligible gains; all other countries were negative.
The 48-country MSCI All Country World Free index, combining developed and emerging markets indexes, fell 2.1% in October.
Performance of the MSCI Emerging Markets index series also was generally depressed in October, with Asia the weakest region. The MSCI Emerging Markets Free index was down 7.3% for October. Every sector was negative, with information technology down 14.8%.
