El Paso County Retirement Plan, Colorado Springs, Colo., hired Nicholas-Applegate to handle $15 million in active domestic large-cap growth equities. Funding comes from liquidating a Russell 1000 growth index fund managed by State Street Global Advisors.
The $170 million plan also selected Batterymarch, State Street Research and Strong as finalists in its search for an active domestic small-cap core equity manager to handle $25 million. It will decide by year-end. Funding will come from liquidating a Russell 2000 index fund managed by SSgA.
The changes are being made to meet target allocations calling for more active management, said David Klemmer, plan administrator.
