Kenneth E. Codlin died Tuesday of complications from prostate cancer. Because of health reasons, he had stepped down last November as chief investment officer of the $12.2 billion State Universities Retirement System of Illinois, Champaign.
Mr. Codlin joined SURS as CIO in 1987, when the pension fund had $2.8 billion in assets. Before that, he was executive director of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, Madison, from 1980 to 1987; treasurer of Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, 1977 to 1980; assistant treasurer and controller of Yale University, New Haven, Conn., 1967 to 1977; and operations analyst with Rand Corp., Santa Monica, Calif.
A private memorial service will be held Friday in Dublin, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; two sons, Kevin M. and Kyle J.; his father, James B.; and two brothers and a sister.
