APPWP, the Washington-based private pension trade group, changed its name today to the American Benefits Council. "For the last 33 years, the Association of Private Pension and Welfare Plans has been advocating federal policy to assist employers in enhancing benefits for their workers. This policy arena is at the forefront of the national dialogue and now were setting the pace with a new name, said James Klein, association president. The council, which represents large employers on pension issues, also reported that members want "phased retirement to be a high priority for the next president and Congress.
