American Express Retirement Services launched online trading for self-directed brokerage accounts for qualified defined contribution plans. The service, available through American Express Brokerage, may not immediately be available for all self-directed accounts. AmEx also is reducing its basic commission rate for online equity trades within self-directed brokerage accounts. It now charges $14.95 for up to 3,000 shares per trade, down from $44.95 for up to 3,000 shares per trade. The fee is still 3 cents a share over 3,000 shares.
