Financial Engines is offering free investment advice on its website to participants in the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Boards $85 billion Thrift Savings Plan. The firm has no agreements with the government or the federal annuity plan. The advice is limited to allocating assets in the Thrift Savings Plan only; participants who want integrated advice across all of their tax-deferred retirement accounts will be charged for a subscription to the service.
The Thrift Savings Plan has only three investments, all managed by Barclays Global Investors: a Government Securities Investment fund; a common stock index investment fund; and a fixed-income index investment fund.
