American Express Retirement Services has expanded the list of mutual funds in its American Express Brokerage self-directed account service to 900 in 170 fund families, up from 200 funds in 11 fund families.
American Express Retirement also has simplified the schedule of securities commissions it charges plan participants who use the self-directed brokerage account. Equity trades with a telephone representative will now cost $44.95 for up to 3,000 shares, down from $49 for up to 5,000 shares. The new fee schedule also includes a 3-cent fee for each share more than 3,000 and a $40 per-trade fee for fixed-income trades.
