In a spectacular reversal, the Dow Jones industrial average powered ahead 320.17 points, or 3.26%, to close at 10,131.41, while the Nasdaq kept tumbling, losing 123.94 points, or 2.63%, to end the day at 4,582.69. The S&P 500 gained 33.01points, or 2.43%, closing at 1,392.16. All closing numbers are preliminary.
