Two men and a woman carried a corpse into a post office in East London, South Africa, to register their "uncle" for pension benefits in late November.
The three people propped up the recently deceased man at the counter, according to the South African Press Association. They told officials there that the man was their uncle and was not feeling well.
They held out his hand to be fingerprinted, a report noted, before the clerk behind the counter became suspicious. Another clerk approached the "pensioner" and discovered he was cold.
The men and woman fled when paramedics arrived. The paramedics confirmed that he had been dead for some time.
