J. Gary Burkhead, vice chairman of Fidelity and president of the personal investments and brokerage at the firm, will retire Feb. 1. He has been at Fidelity for 17 years, managing everything from investment management operations to the institutional business to retail mutual funds; he will remain a director of Fidelitys parent company, FMR. Gail J. McGovern, now head of distribution and services and a senior operating officer in the retail division, will replace Mr. Burkhead as president of Fidelity Personal Investments. The systems and processing groups, now overseen by James Messenger, will transfer to Fidelity Corporate Systems and Services. The institutional brokerage group, headed by Robert Mazzarella, will move to Fidelity Investments Institutional Services. Ms. McGovern also will assume the marketing duties of Stephen A. Cone, who was president, retail and corporate marketing. Mr. Cone left Fidelity to join SSBCitigroup in the new position of global head of marketing for retail and retirement services.
