Bob l. Boldt, senior investment officer at the California Public Employees Retirement System, Sacramento, has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Sheryl K. Pressler as chief investment officer at the $155.8 billion system, according to headhunters and industry experts.
Others likely to be on the short list for the nations highest profile pension fund position are CIOs from other large public funds, including Nancy Everett, CIO at the Virigina Retirement System, Richmond; Christopher Ailman, CIO at the Washington State Investment Board, Olympia; and Patrick Mitchell, CIO at the California State Teachers Retirement System, Sacramento. Also mentioned was Collette Chilton, now CIO at Lucent Technologies Inc., Murray Hill, N.J., who had been CIO at the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board, Boston.
Mr. Boldt, who joined CalPERS three years ago to oversee its global public markets, accounting for 93% of assets, said he has been encouraged to apply for the position and will do so. Ms. Pressler leaves Feb. 29 to become CEO of Lend Lease.
