New York State Teachers Retirement System, Albany, renewed contracts with the following managers for one year at its quarterly board meeting, said Candice Ronesi, spokeswoman: Sanford C. Bernstein, to run $1.26 billion in a U.S. large-cap equity strategy; Dresdner RCM Global Investors, $216 million, and Peregrine, $347 million, both in U.S. small-cap equity; Bankers Trust, $1.2 billion, international index equities; Fiduciary Trust, $607 million, Lombard Odier, $626 million and Wellington, $772 million, all in global fixed income. Additionally, the $81.5 billion system will keep Sanford C. Bernstein on its watch list for underperformance; it will keep Bankers Trust on the watch list because its index team left; and place Dresdner on its watch list because of underperformance and the departure of Nick Sarwell, chief investment officer of the small-cap equity group. The system renewed its contract with Callan Associates to monitor its external investment managers.
