Alabama Trust Fund, Montgomery, is considering a search for a domestic equity manager to diversify its $1.2 billion fund, said Lucy Baxley, state treasurer. Portfolio style and size are undetermined, and no timetable has been set for a decision. Separately, Ms. Baxley said, the fund revamped its manager lineup, hiring five domestic fixed-income managers: Conseco, Smith Barney, SouthTrust Bank, Sterne Agee Asset Management and AmSouth Bank. SouthTrust also was hired to replace State Street Bank as custodian. Performance was not an issue, she said. Conseco and Smith Barney each will receive $325 million; SouthTrust and Stern Agee each will receive $250 million; and AmSouth will receive $50 million. Funding will come from terminating incumbent Wellington Management, which rebid, as the funds sole manager. Performance was not an issue, added Ms. Baxley. The search was conducted in-house.
