Montgomery County (Ala.) Retirement System Fund will invest in equities for the first time Oct. 1, said Al Umphrey, deputy administrator. The $39 million pension fund is now invested entirely in U.S. fixed-income instruments managed by AmSouth Bank. The change in allocation is the result of state legislation that allows the fund to place up to 35% of assets in U.S. equities over the next few years. Trustees have decided AmSouth will manage the initial 10% allocation.
