Harvard Management Co. Inc., Boston, has taken a shine to international telecom.
Harvard Management, which manages the $13 billion endowment of Harvard University, at the end of March was among the top 10 institutional shareholders of American depository receipts for a number of global telecommunication companies.
According to the 13(f) filings reported by CDA Spectrum, Rockville, Md., Harvard's holdings include: APT Satellite Holdings Ltd. of Hong Kong, with 532,700 shares; France Telecom, with 130,000 shares; Grupo Iusacell SA of Mexico, with 129,700 shares; Argentina's Nortel Inversora SA with 366,500 shares; and Brazilian Tele Centro Sul Participacoes SA with 183,300, and Telesp Celular Participacies SA with 187,000 shares.
Jack Meyer, president of Harvard Management, said he would neither confirm the positions nor comment on specific investments.
