Fresh off the ice after the Dallas Stars' stunning Stanley Cup win, offense man Mike Modano will trade his hockey stick for a golf club and hit one of the hottest of courses -- the par 72 Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nev.
American Century Investments, Kansas City, Mo., signed a multi-year deal with NBC to become the title sponsor for the Fourth of July Celebrity Golf Championship. American Century's advertising agency, Rubin Postaer and Associates, will create a series of golf-themed television advertisements to be aired during the game, which is American Century's first sponsorship of a major sporting event.
Now in its 10th year, the celebrity tournament will this year feature sports stars such as Mr. Modano's Stars' teammate Brett Hull, as well as Wayne Gretzky, Mike Ditka, Scott Hamilton, Charles Barkley, Jim Harbaugh and John Elway. Music and film stars planning to pick up their irons are Steve and Rudy Gaitlin, David Cassidy, John Ashton and Maury Povich. Only one (former) pro-wrestler has agreed to swap body slams for daintier tee shots: Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura.
