Alex Muromcew joined Loomis, Sayles as vice president and portfolio manager for international core and small-cap equities. Previously, he was co-lead manager of Nicholas-Applegates $1 billion international core equity portfolio, and he specialized in Asian stock selection. Catherine Somhegyi, Nicholas-Applegate CIO for global equities, will help Mr. Muromcews three teammates manage his part of the portfolio until a replacement is selected, said Rick Shaughnessy, spokesman for the firm. Loomis also hired John Tribolet as vice president and portfolio manager for European equities. He was a member of the Nicholas-Applegate team that selects European stocks for the international core portfolio. His replacement also has not been determined, Mr. Shaughnessy said. John Flynn joined Loomis in client servicing and marketing, the same position he held at Nicholas-Applegate. The hirings represent a strategic move by Loomis to expand its international equity investment business, in part by using the firms large fixed-income research department in Boston, said Loomis spokeswoman Margaret Clough. Loomis had only one international equity portfolio manager, Paul Drexler, whose position in the firm may change, officials said.
