Illinois State Universities Retirement System, Champaign, hired Strategic Investment Solutions to review private placement strategies and decided to keep Ennis Knupp as general investment consultant, said James Hacking, executive director. Strategics review of private placement will help trustees decide how to place funds liquidated from real estate investments. The $10.4 billion fund now has 1% of total assets with Brinson Partners in a fund of funds. Trustees also decided to move $100 million from PIMCOs stocks-plus portfolio to an enhanced index portfolio with existing $360 million mortgage-backed securities manager BlackRock. PIMCO will continue to manage $600 million. Separately, large-cap equity manager Fayez Sarofim will lose $400 million to existing domestic equity index managers BGI and NTQA. The exact split will be at the investment staffs discretion, Mr. Hacking said. Fayez will still manage between $300 million and $350 million. The move was part of a strategy to further employ passive management.
