On June 28, industry professionals will gather at the second annual golf outing benefit for the James J. Biundo Charitable Foundation, an organization formed in memory of one of their own.
Mr. Biundo's love of the game is what sparked the idea for his friends and colleagues to start the foundation and annual outing event. Don Phillips, president of Forstmann-Leff International Inc., Chicago, led the effort.
Mr. Biundo joined Forstmann-Leff in 1997, after overseeing the U S WEST Inc. pension fund for 14 years.
He died in February 1998.
Gene Ferguson, head of sales and marketing at the firm, coordinated this year's outing in hopes of raising $150,000 for charity.
He expects about 100 participants to gather at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo. Thirteen sponsors have signed up, paying a total of $5,000 per foursome to play, Mr. Ferguson said.
Last year's proceeds of $120,000 went to the University of Colorado School of Medicine for infectious disease and breast cancer research.
