MILWAUKEE -- Artisan Partners Ltd. named Marina Carlson a partner and co-portfolio manager of the firm's small-cap growth strategy, including the Artisan Small Cap Fund. Ms. Carlson joined Artisan in early March from Strong Capital Management Inc., Menomonee Falls, Wis.
She assumes co-management of the mutual fund from Millie Hurwitz, who is leaving Artisan to spend more time with her family.
Ms. Carlson will co-manage the small-cap growth strategy with Carlene Ziegler, with whom she worked at both Strong and Stein Roe & Farnham Inc., Chicago.
Ms. Carlson was manager of the 2-month-old Strong Mid Cap Disciplined Fund when she left and co-managed Strong Common Stock and Strong Opportunity Funds until the end of 1998.
Dean DuMonthier, an analyst who worked with Ms. Carlson, has assumed management of that fund.
Artisan Partners also reopened the $170 million Artisan Small Cap Fund to new investors, effective April 1.
The fund will be closed again when it reaches $300 million in total assets.
The fund first closed in February 1996, according to a company spokeswoman.
