Arthur P. Solomon has filed a complaint with the New York Stock Exchange, charging Lazard Freres with breach of fiduciary duty and defamation of character in connection with his departure from the firm. In the complaint, the former head of the real estate investor group also accused Lazard of breaching its fiduciary responsibility to its real estate fund investors by terminating him. The claim also alleges that, to justify Solomons termination, the firm provided fund investors with an intentional misrepresentation of the funds actual and potential performance. In a statement, a Lazard spokeswoman said, "Mr. Solomon was asked to leave the firm. This action was taken solely with the best interests of our investors in mind. It is unfortunate that Mr. Solomon has filed this baseless claim, which is defamatory in itself, at the expense of the very investors he purports to protect. We intend to seek full recompense for the defamatory and untrue allegations made against our firm and partners.
