The median Canadian balanced pension fund returned 0.8% for the first quarter and 1.3% for the year ending March 31, according to an SEI Investments survey. Balanced funds have annual commitments to Canadian bonds and equities of greater than 20%, said Terry Li, senior product manager for SEI. They also must have commitments to non-Canadian equities between 3% and 30%, she added. SEI used data from 2,500 institutional portfolios with more than C$300 billion (U.S.$205 billion) in assets.
