The Cantor Exchange, a joint venture of bond broker Cantor Fitzgerald and the New York Board of Trade, traded 8,326 U.S. Treasury bond futures contracts Feb. 22. That volume represented about 2.5% of all bond futures traded on that day, by Cantors calculations, and followed the launch of a market maker program offering free futures trading for specified time periods. Market makers signing up before the end of February can trade free of exchange, clearing and transaction fees until the end of 2002. Market makers signing on in March can trade free until the end of 2001.
