SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt Feb. 23 said the securities regulator does not intend to tell independent mutual fund directors how to do their jobs. "I do not favor government intervention in this area, Mr. Levitt said in remarks opening a two-day roundtable on the role of independent mutual fund directors at the SEC. At the same time, he noted that he intends to make improving mutual fund governance one of the top priorities of the securities watchdog.
