Alabama Trust Fund, Montgomery, narrowed a domestic fixed-income manager search to five finalists and is expected to make a final decision at its Feb. 23 board meeting, said Lucy Baxley, state treasurer.
Ms. Baxley said that while portfolio sizes have not been determined, two national and two state firms will be hired. Funding will come from reducing Wellington's domestic fixed-income portfolio.
National finalists are: incumbent Wellington Management; Conseco Capital; Merrill Lynch/Hotchkis and Wiley; Smith Barney Capital; and T.Rowe Price. State finalists are: AmSouth Bank; Regions Bank; SouthTrust; Sterne Agee; and T. Level & Associates.
Currently, Wellington manages the $1.1 billion operating fund's assets, all in domestic fixed income. Wellington is expected to remain a domestic fixed-income manager after the search is completed, she said.
