State Universities' Retirement System of Illinois, Champaign, will eliminate its $40 million emerging markets indexed portfolio with Barclays Global Investors by the end of September, said Kenneth Codlin, CIO for the $9 billion fund.
The fund will shift the money to an actively managed emerging markets equity portfolio run by Martin Currie, Mr. Codlin said. ''Emerging markets are not well-served by indexing,'' he said.
Martin Currie currently manages $80 million in emerging markets equities for State Universities, Mr. Codlin said.
Diane Paul, a spokeswoman for Barclays, did not return calls by deadline.
