The stock markets plunged even further with heavy trading today. The fall was particularly sharp in the last hour before the close.
The Dow Jones industrial average plummeted 6.36%, or 512.61 points, closing at 7539.07.
The S&P 500 fell 6.78%, or 69.65 points, to 957.60.
The Nasdaq composite dropped 8.57%, or 140.53 points, to 1499.15.
Volume on the New York Stock Exchange was 924 million shares.
