Delaware Investments and the Philadelphia Orchestra are giving inner-city children something exciting to write on the age-old topic: "What I did during my summer vacation."
A $25,000 corporate donation -- presented by Jeffrey J. Nick, president of Philadelphia-based Delaware Investment, to Joseph Kluger, president of the Philadelphia Orchestra -- will help support special summer orchestra education programs.
The money will pay for a fall program, "Sound All Around," which provides preschoolers and elementary school children an overview of the orchestra. The program includes instrument demonstrations, concerts and personal interaction with the musicians.
Delaware Investment gives advertising support and contributions to arts programs through its Philly First Initiative. Linda Finnerty, spokeswoman for Delaware Investments, said this is an opportunity for the investment firm to raise its profile in the community.
"It's a feel-good activity that lets our employees know that we're doing something good in the community," she said.
