South Carolina Retirement System, Columbia, sent out about 75 RFPs for its first consultant search.
Responses are due Sept. 4. Officials will interview finalists in mid to late September and will not consider firms that also want to manage money for the $17 billion fund, said Richard Eckstrom, state treasurer.
Once a consultant is hired, searches for the fund's first equity managers will begin, followed by searches for a master trustee and custodian.
