IRAs are making a comeback, thanks to last year's changes in tax laws, according to a survey by the Securities Industry Association released today. The number of IRAs grew 13% between December 1997 and April 15 and the value of IRA accounts increased 12%, according to the survey of 14 securities firms.
At the same time, the number of SIMPLE IRA accounts rose more than 50% between year-end 1997, and April 15. Roth IRAs, created under last year's changes in the law, already account for 5% of all IRAs, the SIA pointed out.
