American Stores Co., Salt Lake City, will review its $4.2 billion defined contribution plan within the next year to determine if it's feasible to merge it with Boise, Idaho-based Albertson's Inc.'s $600 million defined benefit and $395 million defined contribution plans, said Dan Zvonek, director of investor relations for American Stores.
Albertson's announced Monday a $11.7 billion merger with American Stores which includes Albertson's assumption of $3.4 billion of debt.
