South Carolina Retirement System, Columbia, named the members of the State Retirement Systems Investment Panel, which will be in charge of hiring the $17 billion system's first consultant and money managers.
They are: Charles S. Way Jr., president of The Beach Co., a real estate developer; James M. Shoemaker Jr., a corporate attorney; Art Bjontegard, formerly vice president in the South Carolina National Bank trust department; J. William Harper, vice president of Greenwood Capital Associates, an investment firm; and Blaine Ewing, vice president with Robinson Humphrey.
Mr. Way will chair the panel, which is expected to hold its first meeting later this month.
The panel was created after the Legislature gave the fund approval to invest up to 40% of its assets in domestic equities.
