NEW YORK -- Money management firm Neuberger & Berman LLC is using new browser-based portfolio accounting and management software.
The software, SunGard-Shaw Data's On-Line, uses World Wide Web technology.
A standard browser can be used to access SunGard-Shaw Data's private network, said Chris Remetz, an assistant vice president at SunGard-Shaw Data.
On-Line's new user interface operates in a manner similar to browsing the Internet. It incorporates navigational aids like home pages and user-defined favorite pages.
Information inside the network also can be navigated using hyperlinks. Users can hop from page to page or move from one information source to another by using a computer mouse to click on linked sources.
The simplicity in using the new version will mean portfolio managers will want it on their desktops, said Mr. Remetz.
"We're really excited about the new system," said Fred Tanaglia, manager of software development for institutional products at Neuberger & Berman. "This will bring us to the cutting edge of technology, giving us unlimited capabilities to merge in-house development and vendor products."
