London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange decided to shift to daytime electronic trading Aug. 3 for its German bond, Italian bond, and five-year U.K. gilt futures contracts.
LIFFE will shift this trading to its automated pit trading system so that it can compete with the all-electronic Deutsche Terminbörse. The move is part of LIFFE's effort to shift to electronics from open outcry.
LIFFE expects to debut a new electronic system for all trading in the second quarter of 1999.
