California Public Employees' Retirement System intends to issue in June an RFI for captive venture capital partners, said Harold Brown, investment officer, private equity, for the Sacramento-based fund.
The selection will occur in September. The $140 billion pension fund expects to make its first investments toward the end of the year, Mr. Brown said. The captive venture partner would help CalPERS establish its own venture capital partnership, which would evaluate and invest in venture deals.
