J. Barry Griswell was named president and a director of Principal Mutual Life. He assumes the job from David J. Drury, who will continue as CEO and chairman.
Mr. Griswell's new role is essentially that of COO, said a company spokeswoman. He also will oversee Principal's global retirement services market, a new unit that will service small and midsized retirement plans worldwide. He also adds responsibility for pension operations and sales and retail businesses to his existing job as head of Principal International.
Kris Robbins was named president of the Security Benefit Group, assuming the duties from Howard Fricke, who retains the titles of chairman and CEO. Mr. Robbins will head up sales, marketing, product and market development, customer service, administration and information systems. Mr. Robbins had been executive vice president and COO; he will retain his COO duties.
James Carlson joined Newport Pacific Management as COO, a new position. He most recently was controller and compliance officer at Spare, Kaplan, Bischel & Associates, where his duties have been assumed by Mark McKee, COO
