Samford University, Birmingham, Ala., is evaluating managers for a $21.7 million alternative investment portfolio for its $196 million endowment fund.
The assets had been managed by Fiduciary Trust in a global bond portfolio. The firm's performance had been poor for the past 15 months, said Laverne Farmer, vice president for business and CIO of the university.
Trustees will hear a presentation from a manager on Feb. 10, but a decision might not come until the board's March meeting. Mr. Farmer would not disclose the names of the firms under consideration.
Fiduciary Trust officials did not rerturn calls.
Los Angeles County Employees' Retirement Association, Pasadena, Calif., approved a $50 million commitment to CVC European Equity Partners II, a buyout fund that invests in European medium-size companies and has limited authority to invest in Asia. Hamilton Lane recommended the investment. LACERA has $22 billion in assets.
