A list of questions put together by the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives is not intended to be a standardized questionnaire, but gives consultants and investment management marketers a consistent way to make routine queries, AIMSE leaders say.
The AIMSE list contains more than two dozen questions consultants routinely ask money managers. Sallie Dowd, AIMSE board member, said many consultants ask managers similar, if not the same, questions.
"We're just saying to the extent that all or any of the consultants are asking specific questions, can you ask it this way . . . so everyone's on the same page," said Ms. Dowd, who has 15 years experience in marketing, sales and client service for asset management firms. She was a member of the task force that put the project together last year.
"It brings greater efficiency to the process and frees up individuals to pay more attention to value-added research they can bring to clients," she said.
For instance, the response to the question, "What is the name of your firm?" could be different from the response to the question, "What is the legal name of your firm?"
This is not a profit-making project for AIMSE, said President Neal Howe. The 34-page list is available by contacting AIMSE's Washington office, 800-343-5659, or at www.aimse.com.
