CHICAGO - State legislatures are expected to act on a proposed uniform law governing state and local government pension funds as soon as December, according to Katie Robinson, spokeswoman for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.
The Management of Public Employee Retirement Systems Act, a sort of mini-ERISA, was passed in late July by the NCCUSL, a joint effort by state governments to create uniform state laws.
Although a related organization, the American Bar Association, also needs to approve the law, Ms. Robinson said she expects states to begin work on passing the law before an ABA vote early next year.
