San Francisco City and County Employees' Retirement System is searching for an enhanced S&P 500 index fund manager for its $8.7 billion pension fund, said Carl Wilberg, portfolio manager-equities.
RFPs are due Oct. 24. The fund will consider both fundamental-based and derivative-based methodologies. The new manager will be assigned $200 million.
The staff hopes to recommend finalists in December and schedule finalists presentations in January. Funding will come from an in-house enhanced index fund, which will be dropped.
Asset Strategy Consulting is assisting.
Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass., is completing a search for a small-cap value equity manager to manage $15 million for its $285 million endowment fund. Officials have narrowed the search to three firms, said Jeff Solomon, assistant treasurer. He would not name the firms.
Mr. Solomon expects the search to be finished within three months. New England Pension Consultants is assisting.
The fund also hired Capital Guardian and Silchester International Investors as MSCI-EAFE international equity managers handling $12.5 million each.
The funding will come from new money and rebalancing.
Unisource Worldwide, Berwyn, Pa., hired Bank of New York as master trustee and custodian for its defined benefit plans with assets of $120 million, said Sandy McCree, director of retirement plans.
The bank replaces CoreStates, which had been custodian for the plans during the transition period after Unisource was spun off from Alco Standard in January.
